October 26, 2006 - TUC, RAC FOUNDATION AND RoSPA SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL COMMUTE SMART DAY
Don’t be in the dark, commute smart will be the call on National Commute Smart Day, next Wednesday, 1 November. The clocks will have gone back on Sunday and many commuters will be faced by the prospect of travelling both to and from work in the dark during the winter.
Commute Smart Day will highlight the issues and problems of commuting during the winter months, with the call on employers and employees to try out smarter working practices, such as flexible working times, staggered journeys and part home working, for themselves over this winter months.
The widespread adoption of smarter working practices will also have knock on effects of reducing traffic congestion and public transport over-crowding by extending the rush hour, reducing peak demand. In addition, smarter working may help mitigate the increase in deaths and injuries which occur on our roads during the winter months.
A number of spokespersons will be available next week for interview. These include:
