Latest news29 June 2004 Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain – Arrangements for the Public at the Fountain Opening
The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park will be opened by Her Majesty The Queen on the morning of Tuesday 6 July, 2004 at 11:00am. Her Majesty will be joined by their Royal Highnesses the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, and Princes William and Harry. The Royal Family will be met by the Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and William Weston, Chief Executive of The Royal Parks. Representatives of the Spencer family, including the Princess’s brother Earl Spencer, will also be present, as will a number of invited guests.
Interested members of the public planning to attend are advised to approach the Fountain from the south of the Park, via Hyde Park Corner, Knightsbridge or South Kensington tubes or the bus routes along Kensington Gore and Knightsbridge. There will no vehicle access to the Park for the public on 6 July, and all parking will be suspended. All roads through the park will be closed.
Due to the constraints of the site, the space available for viewing the opening ceremony at first-hand is likely to be limited. Large film screens will be provided on the football pitch behind Rotten Row to allow as many people as possible to see the event.
Members of the public are advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for walking on grass.
After the Royal party have departed the Fountain will be open in a limited capacity to the public in the afternoon and evening of 6 July. Members of the public are advised that the queues may be long. The Fountain will be fully open from 7 July.
