Latest news6 July 2004 Opening of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain
The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park will be opened by Her Majesty, The Queen on the morning of Tuesday 6 July, 2004 at 11:00am. Her Majesty will be joined by their Royal Highnesses, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, and Princes William and Harry. The Royal Family will be met by The Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell MP, Secretary of State, for Culture, Media and Sport and William Weston, Chief Executive of The Royal Parks. The Princess’s family, represented by Earl Spencer, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, will also be present, as will a number of invited guests including the Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP and First Minister of the Scottish Parliament, The Rt Hon Jack McConnell, MSP.
Following the arrival of the Royal Party, there will be an introductory speech by The Rt. Hon Tessa Jowell MP. This will be followed by a speech by Her Majesty, The Queen.
The Royal Party will meet invited guests, including the designers and contractors involved in the production of the Memorial Fountain and a selection of the charities supported by the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
The Royal Party will then view the inscription on the Memorial Fountain, which reads:
Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, opened by
Her Majesty, The Queen, on 6th July 2004
After the Royal Party has departed, the Memorial Fountain will be open in a limited capacity to the public in the afternoon and evening. The Fountain will be fully open from 7 July.
