Acoustic safety is an important issue for the call centre industry, which employs 1.4 million people in the UK, 3% of the total workforce. Acoustic shock, or noise interference, is one of the major problems, caused by repeated exposure to sharply rising noises in close proximity to the ear, usually through headphones without adequate protection. Symptoms include tinnitus, ear pain, dizziness and nausea, impaired hearing, and anxiety.

With hundreds of legal cases pending, and a ‘class action’ imminent in the Republic of Ireland, it is an issue which needs to be addressed.

Those journalists wishing to attend the briefing should contact Michael Hardware at Chelgate on 0207 939 7939 or meh@chelgate.com.
