Sam Williams, Ampleforth Junior Masters winner with his 2002 trophy received from Fr Leo Chamberlain, headmaster of Ampleforth CollegeTHE BIGGEST PRIZE in British chess was won at Ampleforth College on Sunday, October 27 by a 15-year-old boy from Surrey.

After six rounds of play over four days, Sam Williams emerged a clear victor on points to claim the Ampleforth Trophy and £1000 prize money, while qualifying for a scholarship to the school's sixth form and a place in the British Chess Championship next summer.
