THE
BIGGEST PRIZE in British chess was won at Ampleforth College on
Sunday, October 27 by a 15-year-old boy from Surrey.
After
six rounds of play over four days, Sam Williams emerged a clear victor
on points to claim the Ampleforth Trophy and £1000 prize money, while
qualifying for a scholarship to the school's sixth form and a place in
the British Chess Championship next summer.
